The ELEUK Association is pleased to announce its next ELEUK Meeting to be held at the University of Leeds, 22-23 June 2023.

The thematic areas of the meeting will revolve around the teaching/learning of Spanish and its cultures in order to reflect, in particular, on the sectorial situation of language teaching in the British university context. This perspective will be Find out more

We are pleased to announce that the Annual Conference ELEUK 2022 will take place at The University of Warwick.

The British Association for the Teaching of Spanish in Higher Education (ELEUK), constituted in 2014, is an organisation of teachers of Spanish in Higher and Further Education institutions in the UK.

The ELEUK annual conference seeks to be a platform for colleagues specialised in Spanish language teaching to meet and share their expertise and experience in the field.

ELEUK wishes to thank Instituto Cervantes London for their generous support to this event.

ELEUK Conference aims to:

• Promote the teaching and learning of Spanish in Higher and Adult Education in Great Britain
• Foster research in the teaching and learning of Spanish, enhance teacher training in Spanish
• Facilitate contact between delegates from all parts of the UK in order to support professional development and subject expertise.

Confirmed plenary speakers:

• Stephen Krashen, University of Southern California (Los Angeles): Fundamentals of Language Acquisition & The Language Acquisition Device (LAD) never shuts off: four hypotheses (the conference will be delivered online and it will be available for the face-to-face participants to the Encuentro ELEUK2022).
• Reyes Llopis-García, Columbia University (New York): Lingüística Cognitiva Aplicada: fundamentos teóricos e investigación empírica en ELE.
• David Block, Universitat Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona): Identity in the 20th century, identity in the 21st century and learning Spanish as L2.

Useful information

How to get 

The University of Warwick is in the city of Coventry, not Warwick. You can reach it by train to Coventry station, or at the Canley or Tile Hill halts. 

As you exit Coventry Station, on your left, you will find the buses to the campus: the 12X which takes 15 minutes and the 11 which takes around 25 minutes. You will find the schedules here: 12X Coventry - University of Warwick FAST | NX Bus Coventry and 11 Coventry - Leamington Spa | NX Bus Coventry. Or you can take a taxi from the station to the campus, for a cost of approximately £15  

The stop where you should get off is Warwick Interchange, which is the central bus stop on campus, which leads to the Warwick Arts Centre and the university's central square.

CALL FOR PAPERS

From the committee of ELEUK, we encourage those who wish to participate this year in the Annual Conference ELEUK2022 to send proposals to us before 22^nd April 22.

Like every year, ELE teachers at universities and in adult education, as well as ELE teacher trainers, can submit communication proposals. Proposals must be original and can refer to both research projects and teaching practices in any of the areas of ELE teaching. All presentations and communications will have a maximum duration of 20 minutes + 10 minutes for questions and answers.

From 2020, the conference proceedings will be published with the collaboration of the participants who are interested. To propose a communication/presentation, please fill out the form that you can find by clicking <HERE> to Eleukassociation@hotmail.com by the 6th May 2022.

The members of the Scientific Committee will make the selection of proposals completely anonymously, independently and evaluating each one separately. The decision of the Committee will be final. Only selected papers will receive a confirmation message.

The Encuentro ELEUK2022 is organized in collaboration with the University of Warkwick.

ELEUK 2021 ANNUAL CONFERENCE REPORT

Our annual conference 2021 took place between June 9-11, for the first time in an online format. A total of 106 participants attended, of which 71 were partners or came from institutional members such as the Universities of East Anglia, Bath or Cardiff, the Instituto Cervantes or Spanish for Executives. All the invited speakers from past editions of the meeting were invited, and for this reason we were fortunate to have the presence of María Marta García Negroni, Jane Arnold, José Ruiz Campillo, Ernesto Martín Peris and Fuensanta Puig.

The congress lasted two afternoons and a full day, with a total of 14 communications in 7 simultaneous sessions and 4 plenary lectures by Daniel Cassany, Amparo Lallana, Rosana Acquaroni and Estrella Montolío.

The congress was organized on the platform Microsoft Teams, based at the University of Edinburgh. Carlos Soler, Mario Saborido and Lourdes Barquín took care of its configuration and management.

The Scientific Committee, composed for the occasion by Esther Lecumberri, Inés Gutiérrez and Manuel Lagares, was in charge of the selection of communications.

María José Gonzálvez and Vicens Colomer were in charge of managing and disseminating content through the Association's website, Twitter and Facebook accounts, which allowed them to actively follow the event with very satisfactory comments.

The general perception of the Virtual Annual Conference 2021 has been very positive. In addition to social media, the attendees expressed satisfaction both in the Microsoft Teams chats and in the informal conversations in the platform's “cafeteria” and in subsequent messages.

ELEUK 2019 Conference

The Encuentro ELEUK 2019 took place at the University of Edinburgh on 13 and 14 June 2019. The Encuentro was organised in collaboration with the university's School of Literatures, Languages and Cultures.
